Ugly Children's Clothing Milk Lunch Box Review!

I mentioned having one final lunch box review for the back to school season, well, I lied. While this was supposed to be the last in the weekly lunch box reviews, I have ONE more. Really, just one! I hope you have all enjoyed learning about the variety of bento boxes available for you and your little ones, and congrats again to the lucky Ladybug Lunches followers who won the lunch box giveaways!

Today I bring to you the Milk Lunch Box Review. The awesome people from Ugly Children's Clothing were kind enough to send me their Milk Lunch Box in Red and Blue to sample and review. The pattern on the Milk Lunch Box (and the whole line of MILK products, actually) stems from the milk cartons formerly used in Norway in the 70's.

The Milk Lunch Box is made up of an outer metal shell and an inner plastic insert with removable dividers. The picture below demonstrates how the Milk Lunch Box looks with the two adjustable inserts removed. You can choose to exclude the inserts altogether, use one for two larger side compartments, or two for three smaller side compartments. This really allows for a great deal of versatility when packing lunch!

When the insert is completely removed, you are left with a larger box that can be used not only for lunch but a variety of other things! We will obviously be using ours for packing lunches but just thought I would throw that out there :)

Below is a picture of the first lunch we packed in our new MILK Lunch Box! This lunch box is very spacious and holds a good amount of food. The measurements are 7 1/2 in x 5 1/2 in x 2 1/2 in. In addition to this, I sent an Apple Sauce pouch that fit in the same compartment as the Mini Pita Pizzas, it just didn't look as great for the picture.

In this Ladybug Lunch:
Mini Pita Pizzas
Orange Slices
Pretzel Goldfish
Pirates Booty
& an un-pictured Apple Sauce Pouch!

Now, let me completely sum up my review of the MILK Lunch Box:
Features we love:
  • Spacious & Stylish
  • Child & Adult Friendly
  • Adjustable plastic dividers
  • Plastic insert is dishwasher safe
  • Plastic insert is BPA free
  • FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING--- yes, you read that right!

Things to consider:
  • Outer shell is not dishwasher safe
  • Individual compartments are not leak proof
  • Paint susceptible to chipping
Overall, the Ugly Children's Clothing MILK Lunch Box is Ladybug Lunches approved! Want to see the other products Ugly Children's Clothing has? Check out all of their products HERE!

Thriftee Gear Review & GIVEAWAY!

The day has finally arrived, it saddens me to say this is the LAST of the Back-to-School review & giveaways. I have a final review for you next week but it will not be accompanied with a giveaway so be sure to enter this ThrifTee Gear Giveaway!!!!!

This review is slightly different, it isn't a lunch box review, it's a lunch BAG review! And actually, it's pretty darn awesome! When Trixie from ThrifTee Gear offered me the chance to review my very own ThrifTee Gear Lunchbag, I was over the moon excited, to say the least. This was a different kind of excitement though. Usually, I'm excited at the prospect of having a new lunch box to play with and pack Ladybug's lunch in. But like I said, this was different, this lunch bag was ALL. ABOUT. HUBBY. You see, anytime he sees a new package in my name, he isn't the happiest camper. Without me saying a word, he knows what's inside. And let's be honest, you all know he doesn't get as thrilled with lunch boxes, cookie cutters, and colorful silicone holders as I do! So this particular lunch bag was to bring a little lunch excitement to his life :)

Before I get into the details of our new bag, let me tell you a little about ThrifTee Gear. ThrifTee Gear takes YOUR old T-shirt (or one of their own) and turns it into an Eco-Cool Reusable Lunchbag or Back Pack. This is the perfect solution for teens and tweens who are no longer interested in using the lunch boxes that seem to be more geared toward younger ones. If it's a shirt they love and are not ready to let go of, they are more likely to use it. It's also a great way to encourage packed lunches with a cool twist! Not to mention, they are also perfect for adults and grown men! Below are the reasons we have really enjoyed our new ThrifTee Gear Lunchbag...

ThrifTee Gear Features we Love:
  • Made from an upcycled product
  • Reusable
  • Water resistant
  • Machine washable
  • Food safe lining on the inside that makes it easy to clean!
  • Customizable- choose a ThrifTee Gear shirt or send in one of your own!
  • Mom Made!
Trixie, the amazing mom behind ThrifTee Gear, was a great pleasure to work with. She immediately mailed me a pre-paid envelope for me to send my T-shirt in and in less than two weeks we had our new ThrifTee Gear Lunchbag! Hubby immediately claimed it as his own, needless to say, that was the plan along. Jokingly, I asked if I could use it to pack my lunch today, and hubby said no. Not joking! He doesn't even put it away with ALL of our other lunch bags. It's in his own personal space, maybe so we dont take it!

Ok, now onto the details of our new personalized Lunchbag... Below is a picture of the shirt I submitted to ThrifTee Gear.

Have I ever mentioned Hubby is from Liverpool? Well, he is! And despite having lived here (Los Angeles) for over ten years, Liverpool is still a huge part of his life and it has become a big part of mine and Ladybug's lives as well.

This Liverpool Jersey is the first one Hubby, Riley, and I all had. We were each gifted our jerseys during Ladybug's first Christmas when Nan & Grandad came to meet Ladybug for the first time. As you can see below, we all love our jerseys and have worn them frequently. I even dressed up as a Liverpool player for Halloween last year. As you can imagine, Ladybug quickly outgrew hers, and Hubby and I have the newer editions so we don't wear those as much. I figured this would be the perfect way to keep this particular jersey (we sent mine in) in our lives for a long, long time!

By the way, I made Hubby wait until after I took pictures of our ThrifTee Gear Lunchbag before taking it to work. This took a few days, I wont lie. Maybe even a week.  Below is HIS new lunchbag packed with a red lidded EasyLunchboxes and the cup he uses for his morning protein shake. As you can see, it is very spacious!!!

Are you ready for a chance to win a ThrifTee Gear bag of your own!?!?!?!?

Good Luck! The winner has 48 hours to respond before a second winner is selected.

Lunchsense Lunch Box Review!

I promised weekly reviews and here is this weeks review: Lunchsense Lunch Box!

Lunchsense was kind enough to send us a Medium Lunch Box Set to review. Lunchsense offers three different lunch box sets: Small, Medium, and Large. While the Small Lunch Box is meant for smaller appetites and wee little ones, like my Ladybug, we opted for the Medium Lunch Box since we have to pack extra food for her "second lunch" at school.

When I first received the Lunchsense Lunch Box, I wasn't very fond of how rigid and grown up it looked. But I quickly grew to love it! The grown up and rigid look is actually very intentional. Lunchsense designed their lunch box sets to be used not only by children, but also adults who need to look professional in their place of work. Mission accomplished. Not to mention that it's design makes it evident that this lunch box is sturdy and durable.

The Lunchsense Lunch Box opens up to become a placemat for your lunch, or a sitting mat, depending on the situation of course. While I like that it opens up, this isn't a feature that my Ladybug will be using anytime soon. It is, however, very easy to assemble and disassemble into this position. And it is very convenient for play dates in the park, family picnics, or outing to the beach!

Pictured above is everything that is included with the Medium Lunch Box: one 19 oz Lock&Lock food container; two 6 oz Lock&Lock food containers, 1 oz condiment jar, 8.5 oz drink bottle, and one ice pack. I love the Lock&Lock containers! Ladybug can open them all by herself, and you know that for a two year old this is a HUGE deal. She can't close them yet but thats ok, she has amazing teachers that are there to help her during her lunch and second lunch periods. The Lock&Lock containers are also leakproof which means I can pack just about anything I want without having to worry about spills. Everything you see here is also dishwasher safe. That's always a plus for busy moms who can throw it in the dishwasher and forget about it.

I particularly like the larger 19 oz food container. It has two inner containers that are removable. If you have a larger lunch, you can remove the inner containers altogether. I usually pack something that needs to be warmed up, both for myself and my Ladybug, so it's great to be able to use one of the two compartments for a need to heat in the microwave food!

When purchasing the Lunchsense Medium Lunch Box, you are given the option between a screw-top drink holder or a sippy style drink holder. Most of Ladybug's cups are sippy cups so we selected the sippy cup. This is the only issue we have had with this lunch box set. When we have used it, we have had to constantly wiggle the top to make sure the drink is coming out. It also squeeks for some reason, but if we wiggle it the squeeking will stop. I would recommend purchasing the screw-top drink holder for these reasons.

When you pack your Lunchsense Lunch Box, all of the containers remain right side up! This is essential for bento lunches, it keeps the cuteness in place. That is of course a plus for us. Below are pictures of one of Ladybug's lunches packed in our new Lunchsense Lunch Box as well as one of mine! That's right ladies and gentlemen, I use it too!! Also, notice that each lunch has one food item in the large container that needs to be heated. Made possible by the very useful removable inner containers!

In this Ladybug Lunch:
Whole Wheat Quesadilla Triangles
Diced Honeydew & Strawberries
Goldfish & Pretzels
Chobani Blueberry Yogurt

In this MommyBug Lunch:
White Bean Chili
Tortilla Chips- for dipping
Cheese- for topping
Orange Slices
Butterfly Pretzels

To sum it up, here are the features we love:
  • Versatile & Durable
  • Leakproof containers are microwave, freezer, & dishwasher safe. Oh, and leakproof! :)
  • Lunchbox doubles as placemat or sitting mat
  • Reusable containers reduce food waste
  • Promotes portion control
  • Lunchbox is machine washable (cold/warm water only)
  • BPA, PVC, & Lead free

Again, our only issue was with the sippy cup but if your purchase the screw top drink then you should have no complaints whatsoever!

Love this lunch box??? Lunchsense has generously offered a coupon code for all Ladybug Lunches readers! The coupon code is valid from 8/12/13 - 8/28/13. Use coupon code: LALU10 for a 10% discount on your entire purchase!

Overall, Lunchsense is Ladybug Lunches approved!

BTS Yubo review & GIVEAWAY!

I promised several back to school review and giveaways and here is this weeks! I know it's a bit late, but hey, better late than never! Besides, you have a WHOLE week to enter so really it's like it's not late at all :) My reasoning is on point, don't you think?
This week I bring to you the Yubo Review & Giveaway!!! Woohoooooo!

The Yubo was the first lunch box we purchased when I decided I was going to start packing Ladybug bento lunches for school. It was Ladybug's Christmas present, and while I think I was slightly more excited about it then she was, it was a definite hit! Ladybug loved it and before I knew it, she was actually eating all of the food I packed for her. It was great! We originally purchased the Orange Lunchbox with Personalized Jungle Fun Faceplate set. Here is a picture of one of Ladybug's first lunches packed in our orange Yubo:

Yubo was then kind enough to send us a second Yubo, this time we selected the Pink Lunchbox with Fairy Princess Faceplate Set. Ladybug turned girly on me and decided she was all about pink, purple, and princesses so this was the perfect Yubo for her. Needless to say, our orange Yubo has kind of been placed on the back burner while we enjoy our new pink one! Cute, right? I have also included a picture of one of our lunches packed in Ladybug's pink Yubo... a flower lunch!

Each Yubo comes with three containers, an icepack, lunch box, detachable rubber handle, and removable faceplates. EVERYTHING you see below (except the removable faceplates) are dishwasher safe. No need to mention how much we love that feature. Oh wait, I just did.... oops!

Yubo has recently come out with a line of "Tall" designs, meaning you can hold your Yubo vertically if you prefer! The new Tall designs are super cute, we received the Honeybee Faceplate Set and we love it. Surprise, surprise :) The Medium Containers pictured below were purchases separately when we ordered our first Yubo. These are a great addition to our Yubo Lunchbox and really allow us to pack more versatile lunches!

Now, here are all the features we love about our Yubo:
  • Super kid friendly & cute!
  • Leak proof containers (ALL of them)
  • Changeable faceplates
  • Icepack included
  • Items can be purchased individually should you need to replace any of them
  • No need for baggies or individually wrapped foods. YAY for eco-friendly!
  • Dishwasher safe
  • BPA free
  • Recyclable
Things to consider:
  • No space for utensils (this is quite a challenge for us as we are required to pack a spoon, fork, and cloth napkin with each lunch).
  • Multiple pieces means you have more things to keep track of.
  • Have to purchase drink holder separately
Overall, the Yubo is Ladybug Lunches approved and a great back to school lunchbox choice!

And now, for the GIVEAWAY! Yubo has generously offered to send one lucky Ladybug Lunches reader a Yubo of their own! Eeeek, I know whoever wins will absolutely love it! Good luck!

Minion Lunch!

Yesterday, Ladybug made us watch Despicable Me. Again. Well, that's not really a complaint, I enjoy that movie just as much as her, if not more! She became a big fan ever since she saw Despicable Me 2 with her Grandma & Nuna. I promised her I would send a minion in her lunch tomorrow as that is what she loves most about Despicable Me and she seemed pretty excited!

I wish I was the clever one behind the Minion idea but sadly I am not. I was inspired by Lunchbox Dads awesome Despicable Me 2 Lunch. When I first saw it, I knew I would have to replicate it for my Ladybug, partly because it is super cute, but also because it looked so easy peasy! Sometimes I let Ladybug have a sneak peak of her lunch in the morning as I'm prepping her breakfast but I'm going to let her be completely surprised tomorrow!!

This lunch is packed in our new Goodbyn set. I purchased it at Target in the Back to School section because I thought it was so cute! Originally, I didn't picture myself using it for a full lunch. I pictured it as more of a snack pack but it holds the perfect amount of food for my Ladybug.

In this Ladybug Lunch:
Minion Banana & Grapes
Diced Hot Dog &  String Cheese
Raisins & Fruit Chews
Goldfish & Ritz Crackers
